Creation Insights

We're currently working on a new christening gown, bonnet and shoes using a wedding gown that has rows of clear beading on it. We like to use these on baby's gown and hand sew them on by hand. We've "borrowed" the idea from another gown of placing several small beads on the covered buttons to add a little glam. We've also created little flowers for the custom shoes using the large and small beads.

Baby Victoria

2014 has begun! This look was created, along with matching shoes with date embroidered on the bottom, an embroidered bib with terry cloth backing and to keep Victoria warm, a curly minky jacket lined with mom's gown. The gown was designed with ties in the back to ensure a good fit, although when we tried it on her, it fit perfectly! Mom was thrilled that the dress followed the design of her gown. We can't wait for pics of Victoria from her special day.

God Bless Olivia

Pictures of baby Olivia in her "one of a kind" christening creation. Our thanks to mom for sending us pics of her little cutie. There was another family in the church who were impressed by her gown and asked where she got it and mom passed on our information. Thanks Jacqui!

Francesca

We began this creation using mom's beaded, appliqued and ruched wedding gown. The over layer was dupioni silk and the under layer was bridal satin.

The straps were given to mom by her mom so she wanted them to be used in some way in the gown or bonnet. We used the beaded bodice to make the bodice of the babie's gown. We decided it would be best on the bonnet.

Mom also decided she'd like a bib, in which we used the underlayer of satin, embroidered a cross with silver and edged it all with silver binding.

Finleigh

Finleigh's mom sent her gown to us from VA. She sent along pictures of christening outfits she had seen and liked. She wanted a dress that would be suitable for a boy, if she had one down the road. That helps with our creative process. She also requested the dress be made a little bigger and place ties in the back so it could be pulled in. We also tried out a new style of bonnet, one with ribbon in the back so that too, could be adjusted. We love adding ideas to our collections! We also loved the pictures mom sent us of Finleigh...such a cutie! We were also promised a pic of her in her new christening outfit. Thanks Nicole and we're happy you're part of our family now.

Joelle's Gown

Joelle's gown came to us via her mom, who lives in NJ. It was a soft chiffon covered satin, ruched on the side with appliques that seemed to be cemented on! We used the same ruching on the bonnet and were able to remove some of the applique for the bonnet. Joelle wanted to be able to use the gown for a boy possibly down the road so we kept it fairly simple but also made a boy's bonnet so that we could "glam up" the girl's bonnet. Grandma picked up the gown yesterday. We sure hope Mom is as happy as Grandma was!

Megan's Dress

Our newest creation was picked up today by mom & dad. Mom's gown came to us with quite a bit of stains on the bottom from dragging around on the ground. Also, the dress was stepped on and the hem came out. We were able to work our magic by finding the least stained areas to cut out baby's dress. Sometimes the length of the dress changes depending on what our customer wants or how badly stained the dress is but we were able to do the traditional long dress. We used the smaller beading and hand stitched it on the edge of the sleeves and used one band of them on the bonnet. We took just a small amount of the beaded trim work to put on the bodice and place a small decorative touch on the bonnet just to pull it all together.

A Christening Gown for Emily

Our newest customer wanted us to use her favorite parts of her wedding gown in a christening gown for her daughter, the lacy scalloped bottom and the satin pleated knotted ribbon at the bodice. Most of our customers prefer the longer gown, but Diane preferred a shorter gown, similar to one she wore as a baby. We used the scalloped bottom on the bottom of the dress and also to dress up the bonnet. We took the ribbon off and pared it down to fit the tiny bodice of the christening gown. While we love what we do, our favorite part is the hug bonus at the end! Promised pics of Emily in her gown and hat to come, so here's our pics of the before and after gowns.

Sweet Ashley

Our latest customer, brought us her gown that had been thrown into a black garbage bag and stored who knows where! Trying to find clean fabric to use for the gown was quite a challenge. We usually tell people to get the christening gowns cleaned after we work on them, rather than before, but this one was a doozy! After undoing the bustling and de-construction, we were able to find a good amount without stains. We also like to use bead work from the gown to decorate baby's gown, but we found this bead work to be rather clunky for a wee baby. Fortunately, mom brought along her veil, cathedral length, decorated in very delicate bead work all the way around, which I carefully cut around and placed on the hat, jacket and the bottom of the gown. I used silver embroidery thread to hand sew it all on. We did find some larger bead work from the bodice to use on the bodice of the gown to tie it all together and the back of the wedding gown became the back of the christening gown. Mom was very happy with the results and hopefully we'll receive pictures of baby in her gown.

Unisex Christening Gown

Our latest creation was designed for someone who will be  a grandmother at the beginning of the year and wanted to use her wedding gown for both her daughter and daughter-in-law's babies. Not know whether it will be a boy or girl, we chose a more neutral design, using some components of a boys outfit along with some of the more "girly" accents. She wanted both a girl's and boy's bonnet and a bib for the inevitable baby drool. We think it's entirely appropriate for either sex. The extra long length adds more drama to the gown. Thanks Diane! We hope you'll send pictures of your upcoming grandchildren in the gown.

Picture Perfect!

We love getting pictures of "our" babies in their custom christening gowns! Here's Molly and a little quote from her mom.

Molly looked beautiful and had loads of compliments on her dress and bonnet. My experience with you could not have been better. You really were wonderful, thoughtful, fast, and did great work!

A Gown for Marisa

I try not to publish pictures of our christening gowns until the moms get to see them first so we had to wait a bit to post this one. Mom's gown was simple with an floral applique of beads and sequins and a coat made of netting with appliques of sequins, beads and embroidery. We were able to use a bit of the bottom of the coat to embellish the baby's gown and remove the floral applique from the top of the gown for the bodice of the dress. We then designed a coat from Mom's coat scaled down to baby's size. The bonnet also had appliques from the coat.

Lot's O' Gowns!

We've been so gratefully busy the last few weeks. We have our very first 1st Communion Dress created from mom's wedding gown, our first customer from Texas along with 3 other Christening Gowns, all very different from each other and each so much fun to create so look for pictures soon!!! We always try to accomodate our customer's wishes while we deconstruct to construct the perfect Christening gown. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's very difficult but we love a challenge!

Wedding Gown Convert

Our newest confection began this time with a beautiful ivory gown with ecru satin finishing off the bottom and around a waistline that was so small, I don't think I've been that size since I was about 3. The dress was memaid-ish in style so that meant there was not alot of fabric. Jenn, the newest member of our "family," ordered not only a gown for her daughter's christening day but also a boy's romper "just in case". She also wanted a jacket, but by the time we cut out those two outfits, there was nothing much but scraps left. In trying to mirror her gown for her daughter, we had to remove several appliques from the sides and back (stubborn little suckers) and re-applied them to the dress and bonnet, while using the satin waistline on the gown and the satin edging on the bottom of the dress  and to finish off the bottom of the boy's romper and the bottom of the gown. We put a little bit of each of us in our creations, (ouch, sometimes more than a piece) but we love every minute of it. God's blessings on your christening day!

Once Upon a Bride

As business continues to boom, I'm having a tough time coming up with titles for each post! Believe me, I'm not complaining! Our newest customer Amy came to us right after we finished Gracie's gown. A completely different gown, it was white, embroidered organza on the bottom with embroidered flowers on the top cascading down the side. Amy wanted a coordinating jacket. We took the heavily embroidered bodice for the back of the bonnet and bodice of the dress. Bell sleeves and a peter pan collar completed this look. A gown fit for a princess!
